The recent viral unearthing of a ’90s photo of Dwayne Johnson as a Toronto Sun Sunshine Boy – the infamous “fanny pack shot” – put Mick Foley in a nostalgic mood for his time as a tag-team partner with The Rock.

“I’m glad he has a sense of humour about it,” says Foley, who admits if anyone was guilty of fashion crimes, it was Foley himself.

Ironically, the photo turned up, “when I’d just started specifically rocking a fanny pack again,” says Foley, who’s remembered sartorially for sweatpants and lumberjack shirt combinations.

He referenced the episode of WWE Countdown, in which fans voted the pair the fourth all-time greatest tag team – even though they were only partners for a matter of months (but bickered frequently and hilariously on-air).

“I looked at the footage they were showing during that episode, the bright blue sweat pants, the bright blue sports jacket and the Native American fringe coat that was offensive to all Native Americans.

“Finally I said, as long as I’m going to be guilty of all these fashion crimes, I might as well commit one that allows me to carry two weeks’ worth of stuff around my waist.

“So yeah, I’ll proudly wear a fanny pack.”

“But no mom jeans,” he adds with a laugh of The Rock’s high-waisted ‘90s denim.
