Play Review: Charles Dickens
Dickens tale steeped in nostalgia
EDMONTON -- In 1842, Charles Dickens embarked on a tour of North America. Although his readings were a great success, causing rioting among those who couldn't get tickets, he was not kind to his hosts - angering them with his attacks on their pirating of his works, slavery and the peculiar American habit of spitting tobacco juice on the sidewalk.
He had a much better time in Canada, where he actually appeared as an actor with a Montreal theatre company.
