EDMONTON -- Neil Simon got his start as a gag writer for '50s TV stars Garry Moore and Sid Caesar when TV was a live and lusty child.
Starting with Come Blow Your Horn and followed in quick succession by The All American Girl and (especially) The Odd Couple, Simon established himself as an amazing laugh-producing machine. His particular talents were in pyramiding rapid-fire jokes until audiences were convulsed and an ability to sketch flesh-and-blood characters through all that smart dialogue (rent The Goodbye Girl and you'll see what I mean).
