Play Review: The Lonesome West

Lonesome West murderously fun
WINNIPEG -- Laugh? We could have died on opening night for Irish playwright Martin McDonagh's black comedy The Lonesome West at MTC Warehouse.

The story of two bickering, brawling brothers co-existing in a godforsaken corner of Ireland is murderously funny in the first act. We meet the Connor brothers -- tragically vain Coleman (Ross Manson) and petty, avaricious Valene (Robert Persichini) on the day of their father's funeral, when they're visited by young, self-doubting local priest Father Welsh (Daniel Cipilinski) and bootlegging teenager Girleen (Mairi Babb).
