TORONTO -- There's a moment in Psychedelicatessen that neatly illustrates the very need for, well, topical sketch comedy like Psychedelicatessen.
Early in Second City's new mainstage revue, which opened Wednesday night, troupers David Shore, Jennifer Goodhue, and Carolyn Taylor play a trio of party-goers who've slipped outside for a smoke. Awkward chit-chat quickly unravels into hopelessly hollow banter about world events. Characters communicate in buzz-words: "Oh yeah, the war, terrible... Israel... Pakistan... Kashmir... I love that Led Zeppelin song!"
