TORONTO - The emphasis of Second City's promotion for The Puck Stops Here -- its NHL All Star Week revue -- is that it's primarily a compilation of 40 years of hockey sketches. That might be a better sell, but it's a disservice to the show.
Topicality juices comedy, and the new sketches put together by this ad hoc mix of Second City Touring Company players and other local talents are the real reason to see it. In other words, the spoofs of Wayne Gretzky(TM) ads are punchier than the old spoofs of cereal ads that Darryl Sittler and Guy Lafleur did in the '70s.
