EDMONTON -- One of the reasons to attend theatre is that it transports you from your world. It provides a virtual reality you can enter - and in a couple of hours, you return, hopefully renewed and refreshed.
Such an experience is offered by Concrete Theatre's Rice, three stories about growing up Asian-Canadian, written and presented by Jared Matsunaga-Turnbull, Mieko Ouchi and Elyne Quan. The three tales are as separate as small streams, but they mingle in a vibrant river of past and present, combining memories of the persistence of family and the importance of tradition - suffused with a kind of elegant melancholy.
