Play Review: The Weir
Ghastly tales from Ireland
EDMONTON -- "There is no darkness like a winter's night in the country," observes a character in this deceptively simple and highly atmospheric slice of Irish blarney, charm and poignancy.
The Weir takes place in a rather tatty rural pub. It's the local hangout for three men whose lives have long since been stopped up, like the nearby river has been dammed by a weir.
