Play Review: Wurn

wUrn: Winnipeg Fringe Feastival
Ennus Vooruhaas Fitch battles an evil troll to restore love to the strange land of wUrn, where everyone looks like Puck and speaks like Ed Grimley. The first two-thirds of this weird, fractured fairy tale move with a kind of manic energy that makes you feel exhausted on the actors' behalf. Ryan Ward, Carson Nattrass, and the positively radiant Tracy Penner bring their fondness for Pythonesque wordplay, vaudevillian physical comedy, and surprisingly good musical numbers to full steam, right up until the play's deliberately unsatisfying end. wUrn could easily be adapted into a big, lavish production, but the fact that it uses no props and each actor plays three or four parts makes it even more remarkable.
