It is obvious there is an audience of some sort for stupid crap like this third instalment in the Van Wilder series. But I am not part of it. The humour is too lame, the scenario too familiar and stupid, the actors too feeble or too abandoned by the script to make anything of it.
Still, I can't stop them. Mort Nathan's dumb-ass dork-fest comes to DVD this week in an enhanced widescreen-only edition.
The real shame is seeing Kal Penn, who plays Taj as the central character this time, wasted on such drivel. We already know he is capable of a higher level of teen comedy, as witnessed in the brilliantly oddball burger odyssey, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.
In The Rise of Taj, Penn goes to England to wreak havoc with a bunch of other losers, whom he rallies to take on a bunch of effete English snots. Meanwhile, it is just an excuse to party and show some routine T&A.
The DVD offers deleted scenes, a making-off featurette called Union Jack-Offs, a visit to the set in Romania where the frat house was built to save money, and the usual lame gag reel. There are also two music videos for Get Steady with Jonny Lives! and Heads Will Roll with Marion Raven.
