'Dark Knight Rises' dazzles on DVD
By Bruce Kirkland, QMI Agency

Christopher Nolan brilliantly completed a 10-year odyssey with The Dark Knight Rises, the final instalment of his Batman-revival trilogy. Just as cleverly, Nolan now expands his Batman universe with a terrific home entertainment release.

The Dark Knight Rises is new to DVD, Blu-ray and digital download this week. I have the three-disc combo pack for review. It combines DVD with two Blu-ray discs, one devoted to bonus materials. Given Nolan's articulate nature -- a sublime complement to his technical prowess -- the extras operate at the highest level. Teaming with his cast and crew -- including writing brother Jonathan Nolan and Batman star Christian Bale -- the director gives us a university-level tutorial. And not just on The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan provides a context for his original fascination with Batman and the compulsion to turn the comic book icon into a trilogy.
