By Bruce Kirkland, QMI Agency

Christian Bale as Batman in The Dark Knight Rises. (Warner Bros. Handout)

You are now in a panic: It is just before Christmas and you are still searching out gifts for special friends or family members. If you know their entertainment tastes, here are seven suggestions involving DVD and Blu-ray. Each of these recent releases is a gift set, not something routine, so the recipient should be thrilled.

THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY

Elegant and compact, this five-disc Blu-ray set houses Christopher Nolan's brilliant collection of Batman movies: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and this year's rousing finale, The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan has now elevated comic book filmmaking to a new level of sophistication, so it is appropriate that this classy gift box is available now to showcase his triumph.
