Renner's 'Legacy' blasts onto DVD
By Bruce Kirkland, QMI Agency

Jeremy Renner in "The Bourne Legacy."

It took guts to make a Bourne thriller without Jason Bourne. Instead, aside from a photo and cryptic references to action taking place simultaneously in The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy is a tangent.

Whether it is also the start of a legitimate spin-off franchise may depend on how the new home entertainment products sell. After a reasonable (not spectacular) worldwide boxoffice of $276 million, The Bourne Legacy is new this week to DVD, Blu-ray and digital download. Add its boxoffice to the $945 million the Bourne Trilogy generated and the franchise is worth more than a billion bucks at theatres. But the Bourne Trilogy also did remarkably well in various home-ent releases. Legacy needs to do the same.
